The Curriculum

To graduate from the PhD Management programme, the current curriculum mandates the completion of courses amounting to overall 30 ECTS. The courses to be completed are to be fixed in the "Doctoral thesis agreement" for the PhD Management programme in accordance with this regulation.

The programme has been organized/split into two different sections: the Core Programme and the Elective Programme. Each is comprised of 15 ECTS.

The Core Program

Students are required to complete three core courses (5 ECTS each) from the list below, amounting to a total of 15 ECTS credits:

 

Courses Core Program

  • Philosophy of Science
  • Fundamental Readings in Business
  • Experimental Methods
  • Econometrics
  • Qualitative Research

*In justified cases, students may propose alternative courses (e.g., courses offered by other institutions) in consultation with their supervisor and the track chair of the PhD Management program. Subject to approval, such courses may be credited toward the core program requirements.

The Elective Program

In addition to the core program, students are required to complete three elective courses (5 ECTS each) for a total of 15 ECTS credits.

Elective courses are typically offered by faculty members of the Management program. The course portfolio may vary from semester to semester in order to reflect recent developments in research and the specific interests of doctoral students.

  • Academic Writing and Publishing
  • Applying Advanced Regression Techniques
  • Measurement Theory and Scale Development
  • Topics in Managerial Accounting
  • Strategy Content
  • Game Theory
  • Theory of Networks

*Students may propose alternative courses in consultation with their supervisor and the track chair of the PhD Management program. Subject to approval, such courses may be credited toward the elective program requirements.

Please note the following regarding the public presentation/"Fakultätsöffentliche Präsentation" of the dissertation project: According to §5(2) of the curriculum the presentation is not defined as a course in line with §5(1) and will thus also not result in being awarded ECTS points.
