The Curriculum

To graduate from the PhD Management programme, the current curriculum mandates the completion of courses amounting to overall 30 ECTS. The courses to be completed are to be fixed in the "Doctoral thesis agreement" for the PhD Management programme in accordance with this regulation.

The programme has been organized/split into two different sections: the Core Programme and the Elective Programme. Each is comprised of 15 ECTS.

The Core Programme

To complete the Core Programme one may choose three of either of the following courses (each valued at 5 ECTS):

  • Experimental and Simulation Methods
  • Management Decision Making
  • Management Control
  • Advanced Microeconomics
  • Multivariate Business Statistics
  • Structural Equation Modeling
  • Econometrics
  • Advanced Regression Analysis

The Elective Programme

To complete the Elective Programme it is necessary to complete at least three courses, and thus also must amount to a minimum of 15 ECTS. Courses may be chosen from the following list of courses offered by the faculty, in accordance to the current offers available, which may vary from semester to semester. Furthermore it is also possible to choose courses from related PhD-programmes at the University of Vienna or other universities at a maximum of 15 ECTS, if they are relevant to the planned dissertation. To do the latter it is obligatory to obtain the approval of both the supervisor and the DSPL by way of the doctoral thesis agreement.

Further courses may be organised by the DSPL depending on necessity and available ressources, as well as the regulations mandated by the curriculum itself.

Please note the following with regards to the public presentation/"Fakultätsöffentliche Präsentation" of the dissertation project: According to §5(2) of the curriculum the presentation is not defined as a course in line with §5(1) and will thus also not result in being awarded ECTS points.
